Social Marketing Business Solutions Reminds You How to Spot an Email Scam

Social Marketing Business Solutions Reminds You How to Spot an Email Scam

With Email scams now showing up on Facebook we thought it might not hurt to remind you how to spot an email scam whether it shows up in your Facebook message box, or your email inbox.  Read on to find 5 easy tips to help you navigate your inbox.

  1. Personal Information – Legitimate companies will not ask you to give them personal information via email.  It is one of the most common methods for getting your information for scammers
  2. Email Attachments – be very careful of links and attachments that you are not expecting.  Beware of attachments ending with .pif or .scr, as these are always scams.
  3. Sweepstakes – unless you remember physically entering your name in a sweepstake, these are usually scams.
  4. Website Links – always go to the website yourself to make sure that you are not being re-directed to a fake site.
  5. Spelling and Grammatical Errors – although no one is perfect, usually a company will make sure that its communication is free of grammar and spelling errors.

At Social Marketing Business Solutions we work hard to keep your Social Media Campaigns and Newsletters scam free.  Contact us to help you with designing an email marketing campaign that your customers look forward to opening.

Email Marketing Campaigns

Email Marketing 101 from Social Marketing Business SolutionsIt’s Monday morning and you open your email inbox after a weekend of not checking it.  You discover to your horror that there are now over 100 emails waiting for you to read.  You start by deleting all the marketing emails.  Stop.  You send out marketing emails.  How do you make sure that your emails are not in the list of Automatic deletes on Monday morning?  Welcome to Email Marketing 101 from Social Marketing Business Solutions.

Where we used to stop by our trash can when coming in from the mailbox to get rid of all the ‘flyers’ we received in the mail, now we find them in our in-box.  So the question becomes how do you make your marketing email stand out from the rest?  What do you offer or say that will compel your customers to open, read, and respond to your email instead of deleting it?  Social Marketing Business Solutions has consolidated a list of tips from several top marketing gurus.

  1. Subject Line – The first thing your customer will see is your subject line.
    1. Make sure that it is compelling enough to induce them to open the email.
    2. Be careful to be honest in your statements in the subject line.
    3. Make it short and sweet.
    4. Make it informative.
  2. Personalize – Use their name in the greeting.  It is easy to have your customers become ‘just another number’.  Make sure to personalize your emails so they will feel that you are talking to them and not just to the masses.
  3. Content – We can never emphasize enough the importance of the content in your marketing email.  What service/product are you going to emphasize in your email?  Make sure it is in the first paragraph.
  4. Frequency – Don’t overwhelm your customers with daily emails.  We are all busy. Give them the option to choose how often and when they want to receive an email from your company.
  5. Call to action – Give your customers a reason to respond and then tell them how to respond.  Most people appreciate straight forward offers and suggestions of how to follow up on your email.

One of the best ways to implement all these steps is by using a dedicated email marketing program.  There are many out there that offer good programs.  Contact us via our Facebook page or leave a comment below, and let us help you set up an email marketing campaign that will work for you and your customers.

Facebook Timeline Profile Changes of September 22, 2011 – How To See Your Timeline Now

I have a Facebook Timeline!

I have just set up my new Timeline profile. In this video, I explain what this means and how you might be able to see your new Facebook Timeline now before it becomes official on September 29, 2011.

On September 22, 2011, during Facebook’s Developers Conference F8, Facebook announced major changes to the way the social network will look and behave. The major aesthetic change will be a new profile page called “Timeline.” The Timeline will replace the current Facebook Personal Profile Page. It will be different in that it will recap your entire history in a timeline fashion…like a scrapbook of your life. How it will be different is that it will include not only pictures, but videos, music, engagement with others, books you read, etc. The goal is to portray the “real you” as life happens.

Although Timeline will “roll out” on September 29, 2011, Dana gives you a step-by-step guide how you can access your Timeline, if you already have a developers’ account with Facebook.

Facebook News Feed Changes of September 21, 2011

What will I see on my Facebook News Feed? What is a top story? What will determine if a post from a friend is “top story” material? How are posts, pages, tags, friend requests, event updates, etc. now showing up on your Facebook News Feed? How does Facebook decide what stories, status updates, etc. do you want to see?

In this video, I recap the apparent Facebook News Feed changes of September 21, 2011 and point out how to get around this new feature.

Facebook began implementing what appears to be a complete overhaul of their platform by combining several features in one area which are now available under the “Home” tab. These include posts from your friends and pages that you follow, photo tags of yourself, friend requests, event updates, group memberships and more. Facebook appears to prioritize the posts you see based on information on hand, such as how often you engage with the person/page, how popular that person/page might be, how many comments a particular post may have and more.

However, a new feature called “lists” allows you to group your friends into lists and see that particular list’s status updates only. There are other customization features as well.

What do you think of Facebook’s new News Feed feature?

The Three Rs of Social Media

Some things never change…  If you are new to social media and you wonder where to start, you may want to consider this fail-proof method:

The “Three Rs,” Reading, wRiting and aRithmetic, are considered the pillar for basic education, and coincidentally, the same principle applies for building a strong social media foundation.

As a business person, you have a product or service to sell and you want to find a potential client who will buy product or service.  When deciding where and how to social network, due diligence is required, as your goal should be for your message to reach the right ears.  How do you do that?

Reading
Do a internet search for your type of product or service you offer and read what people are saying about.  Dig a little deeper to find find what likes and/or concerns they may have about it.  Pay close attention to the language and the styles used.  As if you were reading a novel, become familiar with the character types and with what makes those characters enjoy a happy ending after they purchase this product or service.

wRriting
When writing about your product or engaging with your customers or potential customers, use the language and the style they like.  Take into consideration that this is the platform where you communicate with your clientele, and they communicate back with you.  The center character here is the customer and the writing should mostly be about them and their happy endings.

aRithmetic
Yes, and it is about doing the math.    The ideal situation is to reach and engage with the clients who are interested in your products or services.  Having a great number of followers or “likes” does not mean sales and only your targeted efforts will determine your success.  Always measure your results and tweak as necessary.
